Affiliation: Department of Neurosurgery, Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC), Manila, Philippines
Presentation Title: From Threatened to Thriving: A Case Report on Cranioplasty Flap Recovery After Needling Guided by Infrared Thermography

Biography

Dr. Edward Heintjie Quiben is a second-year Neurosurgery Resident at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC) in Manila, Philippines. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at Saint Louis University – School of Medicine, where he graduated 15th among 163 students and earned consistent Dean’s List distinction from 2017 to 2021.

Before pursuing neurosurgery, Dr. Quiben earned his Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science and became a Registered Medical Technologist, showcasing his strong foundation in biomedical research and diagnostics. His academic journey began at Tarlac State University Laboratory School, where his dedication and intellectual excellence earned him multiple Academic Excellence Awards.

Throughout his career, Dr. Quiben has actively participated in national-level academic competitions such as the 8th PSAi Inter-School Anatomy Quiz Competition (2019) and the 8th APMC-SN Luzon Regional Convention Quiz Bee (2018). His pursuit of mastery extends beyond the classroom through hands-on experience in advanced neurosurgical workshops, including the FESS and Anterior Skull Base Course (2023), Skull Base Cadaveric Workshop (2024), and Precision in Practice AFN Craniotomy Workshop (2025).

His research interests focus on pediatric neurotrauma and skull base surgery. In October 2024, he presented his study, “A One-Year Retrospective Series of Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury at a Tertiary Hospital in the Philippines,” at the 50th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN) held in Toronto, Canada.

At NeuroscienceUCG 2026, Dr. Quiben will present his innovative case report titled “From Threatened to Thriving: A Case Report on Cranioplasty Flap Recovery After Needling Guided by Infrared Thermography.” His research explores the use of infrared thermography to monitor postoperative cranioplasty recovery — a pioneering approach that merges technology, precision, and patient-centered care in neurosurgical practice.
